Robotics System Engineer & Researcher

One of our clients - a robotics startup developing autonomous robotic systems is looking to hire a Robotics System Engineer & Researcher

This role is for someone who is fundamentally a builder.

Someone who takes an idea → breaks it down → and turns it into a proof-of-concept by actually building it.

You will work closely with the CTO and VP R&D, explore new directions, run system research, integrate technologies across hardware/software / algorithms, and rapidly prototype concepts into functional demonstrations.

Responsibilities

• Lead system-level research, design, and prototyping of new robotic capabilities
• Take ideas from whiteboard to working POCs – independently or via external partners
• Specify, design, and integrate complex subsystems across sensing, compute, algorithms, and actuation
• Investigate new technologies (sensors, communication modules, autonomy, AI/ML)
• Evaluate feasibility, identify constraints, and define system-level tradeoffs
• Collaborate with robotics, software, hardware, and algorithm engineers to achieve integrated solutions
• Provide system-engineering insights into roadmap prioritization and technology direction

Minimum Requirements

• B.Sc. EE / CS / ME / Physics or similar (advanced degree is an advantage)
• 7+ years working on multidisciplinary systems (Robotics / Defense / Automotive / Aerospace)
• Strong Mechanical Engineering background — hands-on experience designing, modeling, testing and integrating robotic mechanisms (linkages, actuation, kinematics, mechanical constraints)
• Algorithmic literacy — ability to understand and work with control/perception / SLAM/sensor fusion concepts, and translate them into system-level decisions and prototypes
• Experience defining system requirements, architecture, integration, and validation
• Hands-on track record building hardware+software prototypes, demos, or lab systems
• Experience with sensors such as LiDAR, camera, IMU, GNSS
• Programming proficiency in one or more: Python / C++ / MATLAB
• Ability to operate in environments with ambiguity and high pace

Preferred

• M.Sc. / PhD in a relevant field
• Experience with ROS or ROS2
• Familiarity with AI/ML for robotics perception/autonomy
• Experience in embedded / real-time systems
• Experience in startups or defense ecosystems
• Experience partnering with senior leadership on technology direction/roadmaps
