Senior Backend Engineer (Node.js)

A fast-growing technology company in the restaurant-tech space is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to take a leading role in building next-generation, high-scale systems.

This is a pure Backend role - over 90% Backend development, with no real dependency on frontend work.

You will join a strong engineering team working on the company’s NEXT GEN core platform, including a highly complex search and matching algorithm that evaluates over 2,000 restaurants in real time, with extreme performance and availability requirements.

This role is ideal for a senior engineer who enjoys end-to-end ownership, ambiguous challenges, and building systems from scratch using the most advanced technologies available today.

This is a Full-time, hybrid position from Central Israel

What You’ll Do:

• Design, build and own backend services end to end - from architecture to production.
• Lead development of high-scale, high-performance microservices using Node.js and NestJS.
• Take full ownership of complex, non-defined tasks and turn them into production-ready solutions.
• Build and improve a next-generation search algorithm operating at massive scale.
• Work in a distributed, microservices-based architecture with strong performance and reliability constraints.
• Optimize system performance, latency, scalability and uptime.
• Act as a technical owner of major components and products, not just a task executor.
• Actively use AI tools to improve development velocity, code quality and problem solving.

What We’re Looking For:

• 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer.
• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, preferably with NestJS.
• Proven experience designing and building microservices and distributed systems.
• Experience building systems from scratch, not only maintaining existing code.
• Strong understanding of performance optimization, scalability and high-availability systems.
• Ability to lead tasks independently and take full responsibility for outcomes.
• Passion for AI and frequent, practical use of AI tools in daily development.
• Experience working in high-scale production environments.
