About SUBNEURAL

SUBNEURAL is developing a new class of sub-dermal neural interfaces — an ultra-thin, minimally invasive bioelectronic layer designed to sit between human neural activity and computational systems.

Our work lies at the intersection of:

• Neural engineering
• Bioelectronic materials
• Microscale signal acquisition
• Computational neuroscience

The goal is to create a stable, high-fidelity interface that can capture and interpret neural dynamics without relying on traditional craniotomy-based implants. This is hardware-first, research-driven, and grounded in rigorous scientific validation.

The long-term applications are broad; the immediate focus is precision neural sensing and interpretation.

Role Overview

SUBNEURAL is seeking a Co-Founder & Chief Neuroengineer to lead the scientific and engineering foundation of the company.

You will own the architecture of the interface, from materials to signal acquisition to early prototyping and testing. This is a unique opportunity to design and define a novel neural interface category from first principles.

What You Will Lead

1. Device Architecture

• Design the first-generation sub-dermal / near-skin neural interface
• Develop electrode arrays, microneedles, bioadhesive substrates, or analogous structures
• Evaluate materials (graphene, PEDOT:PSS, flexible polymers) for long-term neural compatibility
• Lead fabrication strategies (microfabrication, printed electronics, or hybrid methods)

2. Signal Acquisition Pipeline

• Build the analog front-end for neural sensing
• Implement filtering, artifact reduction, and stable long-duration readout
• Collaborate with computational researchers on decoding models
• Define specifications for SNR, impedance, stability, and drift performance

3. Research & Validation

• Conduct benchtop and preclinical testing
• Align with regulatory and clinical pathways
• Publish foundational findings to establish scientific credibility and attract partnerships
• Establish experimental protocols and documentation standards

4. Technical Team Formation

• Recruit and mentor neuroengineers, materials scientists, and algorithmic researchers
• Create lab culture, research milestones, and development processes
• Build the scientific advisory network

5. Co-Founder Responsibilities

• Shape product trajectory, milestones, and roadmap
• Contribute to intellectual property creation
• Participate in fundraising by articulating clear technical vision
• Co-own scientific direction, R&D prioritization, and strategic decisions

Who You Are

Required

• PhD or equivalent experience in Neural Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Materials Science, Neurophysiology, or related fields
• Hands-on work with implantable or minimally invasive bioelectronic devices
• Strong knowledge of electrode materials, microfabrication, and biosignal recording
• Practical experience with electrophysiology (EEG/ECoG/LFP/µECoG)
• Ability to design, prototype, and validate neural sensors
• Comfortable building from zero and working in a high-ambiguity environment
• Ambition to co-found and lead, not simply join

Ideal (Not Required)

• Experience from Neuralink, Paradromics, Precision Neuroscience, Synchron, Blackrock Neurotech, or similar
• Background in flexible electronics or microneedle interfaces
• Experience decoding emotional or cognitive states
• Track record of high-impact publications
• Prior experience translating lab research into real-world systems
