Position Summary

A cable engineer requires a bachelor’s degree or a Professional Engineer (PE) certification in electrical engineering or a related field. They must have strong technical knowledge of cable system design, installation, and maintenance, supported by solid problem-solving and communication skills. Relevant experience in robotics or automated systems is highly valued. Key qualifications include hands-on experience with wiring and cable assemblies, relevant industry certifications such as BICSI, CCNA, or IPC standards (e.g., IPC/WHMA-A-620). Proficiency with specialized design and documentation tools—such as SolidWorks, Altium, Visio, Agile PLM, and other cabling design software—is also essential.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Design and develop wiring and cabling for robotic systems and the integration of the systems into customer platforms.
• Evaluate new electronic boards and define connection, interconnection, and harnessing requirements.
• Integrate cables into complex electromechanical assemblies and standalone subsystems.
• Identify wiring design issues, diagnose cable malfunctions, and implement corrective actions.
• Support the creation of test equipment, wiring test procedures, and manufacturing documentation.
• Ensure smooth transition from prototype builds to full-scale production.
• Read, interpret, and apply relevant military standards, communication interfaces, schematics, and network protocols.
• Apply working knowledge of common robotics communication protocols, including BiSS-C, I²C, SPI, RS-485, RS-232, CAN, and Ethernet-based fieldbuses.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and process optimization activities.
• Participate in and uphold 5S workplace organization standards.
• Adhere to all Safety and ISO quality procedures.
• Must be able to travel on an infrequent basis.
• Perform additional duties as required.
  
  

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or a Professional Engineer (PE) in Electronics.
• At least 5 years of experience in cable design, integration, and wiring for complex systems, with experience in robotics or automated systems considered a plus.
• Proficient in design and documentation tools such as Altium, SolidWorks, Visio, Agile PLM, and other cable/electronics design software.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
• Demonstrated project management skills, with the ability to independently plan, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks or small projects simultaneously.
• Excellent oral and written communication, customer service, and time management skills.
• Creative and innovative, self-motivated, with the ability to independently solve complex wiring and integration challenges.
