About the Role

We’re looking for a hands-on R&D Team Lead to join Obol and help shape the next generation of our engineering team.

In this role, you’ll lead a small, talented group of backend developers, drive delivery, and build new product components in a fast-paced, energetic startup environment.

You’ll split your time between team leadership and around 50% hands-on backend development with Python as your main language.

We're looking for someone with strong ownership, high energy, and clear leadership presence - someone independent, who drives initiatives, supports their team, and makes an impact.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the backend team
• Build scalable microservices and own a core product domain
• Shape team processes, engineering workflows, and code quality standards
• Drive architecture and collaborate closely with product and R&D leadership
• Support the professional growth of your team

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend development (Python - must)
• 2+ years leading developers
• Experience with microservices
• Experience working with event-driven systems (Kafka / PubSub / RabbitMQ)
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools
• BSc in Computer Science or a related field / graduate of a tech unit.
• Strong communication skills and dynamic personality

• DevOps familiarity
