Job Title: Development Associate
Reports to: Associate Director of Institutional Giving & Special Events & Donor Relations Manger
Salary Range: $47,470 to $50,500
Classification: Salary Exempt
General Functions
The Development Associate plays a key support role for the Development team. This position provides support to the Development Department by coordinating individual and group volunteer events, stewarding relationships with individual and corporate volunteers, managing record and distribution of in-kind gifts, generating acknowledgement letters, recording gift and donor information in Raiser’s Edge, assisting with organization-wide events, and providing additional administrative organizational and departmental support, as needed. Furthermore, this role serves as the staff liaison to the Next Generation Board and manages La Casa Norte’s annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon Team.
Position Responsibilities
- Manage volunteer inquiries, including emailed correspondence, phone calls, and in-person visits.
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate volunteer activities, including obtaining supplies and managing agency’s monthly volunteer calendar.
- Research prospective corporate partnerships (such as workplace giving and employee engagement programs) and synthesize findings for the development team.
- Work with Programs Department to identify volunteer and in-kind needs and assist in filling said needs.
- Assist with management of Raisers Edge and other donor and event-related databases.
- Recruit volunteers through a variety of channels, such as volunteer fairs, email campaigns, in-person meetings, and community events.
- Assist with broader Development Department-related fundraising, providing support when needed for Grants and Communications and Special Events and Donor Relations related activities, as needed.
- Coordinate holiday gift-giving program for clients, including working with Programs Department to identify client needs.
- Generate gift acknowledgement tax letters, including those for volunteer-related activities, in-kind donations, and individual giving.
- Assist with the production and mailing of agency appeals, annual reports, and event invitations, as needed.
- Assist with recruiting runners to represent La Casa Norte in the Bank of America Chicago Marathon and support them in meeting their personal fundraising goals, offering guidance on fundraising strategies as needed
- Work closely with the Chair of the Next Generation Board to plan and host meetings, ensuring a meaningful and impactful experience for this group of dedicated volunteers
- Assist with preparation for various Board and committee meetings.
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Development
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience required, including at least 1 year of experience managing volunteers.
- Bachelor’s Degree in a human service-related field preferred.
- Energetic self-starter with ability to well independently and in team settings.
- Strong interpersonal, oral, written, communication, and project management skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising software required.
- Strong attention to detail, with analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong ability to organize, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks concurrently.
- Strong team player, but able to work independently with a "can-do” attitude.
- Identify problems, analyze alternatives, and develop viable solutions for projects and assignments.
- Manage time effectively and work within strict deadlines.
- Exercise good judgment in safeguarding confidential or sensitive information.
- Understand written and verbal instructions from multiple management team members to complete assigned tasks accurately.
- Provide effective written and oral communication in an environment requiring diplomacy and good judgment in managing interactions with individuals inside and outside of the organization.
- Valid driver's license, proof of auto insurance coverage, and daily access to personal vehicle.
