Engineering Technician - R&D
Location: Petah-Tikva, On-site
Company: Helios
Employment Type: Full-time
Helios is seeking a hands-on Engineering Technician to support the development of mechanical systems for our cutting-edge chemical process R&D platforms. This role is essential to our in-house prototyping and production capabilities, enabling rapid iteration and physical realization of experimental systems.
About Helios
Helios is a climate-tech startup developing novel metal refining technologies that minimize environmental impact and maximize resource efficiency. We operate at the intersection of materials science, chemical engineering, and mechanical innovation. If you're passionate about building systems that shape the future of sustainable industry, we’d love to meet you.
What You’ll Do
- Assemble mechanical prototypes based on CAD models, drawings, or experimental needs of custom vessels, fixtures, and assemblies for high-temperature, high-pressure, and chemically reactive environments.
- Fabricate custom jigs, frames, piping, and related assemblies to support R&D system builds and experiments.
- Apply thermal solutions, including integration of heating elements and insulation, for prototype and test systems.
- Operate and maintain workshop tools and equipment (e.g., drills, angle grinders, 3D printer, laser cutter, TIG/MIG).
- Collaborate with engineers to translate design intent into physical builds and iterate quickly based on test results.
- Take ownership of the lab and pilot ticketing system, managing and resolving service and maintenance requests.
- Document builds, modifications, and test outcomes to support engineering development.
- Interface with suppliers and fabricators to source parts and materials both locally and internationally.
- Manage consumables and assembly-related stock to support ongoing fabrication and prototyping activities.
- Expand workshop capabilities by establishing work protocols, procuring new tools and equipment, and ensuring safe operating practices
What You Bring
- Technical diploma or engineering degree in mechanical, mechatronics, or related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in metal prototyping, fabrication, and mechanical assembly.
- Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Onshape) for jig design and 3D printing.
- Practical welding experience for prototyping and fabrication work.
- Strong familiarity with workshop tools and fabrication techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and BOMs.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced R&D environment with evolving requirements.
- Professional Fluency in English (spoken and written).
- Organized, resourceful, and proactive problem-solver.
- Basic electrical skills (e.g., wiring, sensor setup).
- Experience with hand milling, lathe work, or CNC machining - an advantage.
Why Join Us?
By working closely with engineers, you’ll take ownership of turning design into reality—bringing prototyping and fabrication into tighter sync with development. Your work will help streamline iteration and strengthen the connection between concept and execution.
