Laboratory Engineer

Lab and Field Engineer | Swiss Institute for Dryland Environmental and Energy Research, Ben-Gurion University of the Negev

The Swiss Institute for Dryland Environmental and Energy Research, part of the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, is seeking a skilled and hands-on Lab and Field Engineer to support research and teaching laboratories at the Sde Boker campus.

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge environmental and energy research in one of the most innovative desert research centers in the world.

Key Responsibilities:

• Operate and maintain laboratory and field instruments used for research and teaching.

• Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory and field experiments.

• Supervise, monitor, and support research plots and experimental facilities.

• Procure laboratory equipment and materials through the university system and coordinate with external suppliers.

• Assist and train students in laboratory and field work.

• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain safe laboratory and field environments.

• Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Institute Director.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences – preferably in Biology, Agriculture, or Earth and Environmental Sciences; a Master’s degree is an advantage.

• At least 3 years of relevant professional experience.

• Experience in operating laboratory instruments and conducting field and lab research.

• Valid driver’s license (manual transmission required); experience driving 4x4 vehicles – advantage.

• Good command of English (spoken and written).

• Strong technical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
