System Engineer

Job Requirements: System Engineer (Optical AR)

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced System Engineer to join our fast-paced startup. In this critical, hands-on role, you will be the central hub for our product development, driving the creation of our next-generation augmented reality optical systems. You will manage the entire product lifecycle from initial concept through to a functional prototype, coordinating all internal and external technical efforts.

Required Qualifications & Experience

● Degree: MSc / BSc degree in Optical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.

● Experience: 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, technical project management, or product development, preferably within the AR/VR, consumer electronics, or optics industry.

● Hands-On Mentality: A strong willingness and proven ability to be "hands-on." You will be expected to actively participate in the building, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting of prototypes, not just manage them.

● Prototype Development: Proven track record of leading a complex hardware project from the concept/architecture phase to a fully integrated and tested prototype. You must be able to break down a high-level concept into system requirements, subsystem specifications, and a concrete build plan.

● Complex Optical Assembly & Integration: Demonstrable, hands-on experience building, aligning, and testing complex, high-precision optical systems.

● Supplier & Manufacturer Management: Demonstrable experience working directly with external vendors, suppliers, and manufacturing partners (e.g., for custom optics, electronics, or mechanical components). This includes sourcing, technical specification, quality control, and managing relationships.

● Project Management: Strong project management skills, with experience managing schedules, budgets, and technical risks for multidisciplinary projects. You must be comfortable being the primary point of contact for project status.

● Technical Breadth: Solid understanding of the fundamentals of optical systems, electronics, and mechanical engineering. You must be able to "speak the language" of all engineering disciplines involved.

● Communication: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and clearly articulate complex technical issues to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

● Advanced Degree: Master's degree or PhD in a relevant engineering field.

● Advanced Optics: Experience or familiarity with metasurfaces or metalenses is a significant advantage.

● Clean Room Experience: Hands-on experience working in a clean room environment for optical assembly and testing is an advantage.

● AR/VR/Optics: Direct experience with near-eye displays, waveguides, micro-displays (LCoS, OLED, etc.), or other core AR/VR optical technologies.

● Startup Environment: Thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced startup culture where you may need to wear multiple hats and adapt quickly to changing priorities.

● Cross-Company PM: Experience managing projects that involve external development partners, co-development, or joint ventures.

● Tools: Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Jira, Asana, MS Project). Direct experience with optical simulation software (e.g., Zemax) is a strong advantage. Familiarity with 3D CAD (e.g., SolidWorks) is also beneficial.
