Breakpoint Technologies is looking for a Senior Network Systems Engineer to design and implement a high-performance, privacy-focused networking system.

This role involves building secure tunneling, encryption, and routing components from the ground up — focusing on efficiency, stability, and portability across Linux and embedded environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement secure communication tunnels using modern cryptographic standards
  • Develop network daemons and libraries in C, C++, Rust, or Go
  • Work with TUN/TAP interfaces, netlink, and Linux networking subsystems
  • Implement key exchange, encryption, and handshake logic (Noise framework, Curve25519, ChaCha20-Poly1305, etc.)
  • Optimize UDP and TCP transport for low latency and reliability
  • Build tools for connection management, peer discovery, and routing configuration
  • Profile and optimize system performance for embedded and low-power hardware
  • Maintain secure coding practices and conduct internal threat modeling for the network layer

Qualifications

  • Strong background in systems-level programming (C/C++ required; Rust or Go is a plus)
  • Deep understanding of TCP/IP, UDP, routing, NAT traversal, and packet filtering
  • Practical experience with Linux networking stack, epoll/select, and virtual network interfaces
  • Solid grasp of cryptography fundamentals and protocol security
  • Experience building or contributing to networking software such as VPNs, proxies, or routers
  • Proficiency with Linux build systems, cross-compiling, and debugging on embedded or ARM targets
  • Familiarity with asynchronous networking and multi-threaded architectures

Bonus Skills

  • Knowledge of kernel module development or custom protocol design
  • Experience building distributed or peer-to-peer systems
  • Familiarity with containerized networking (Docker, namespaces, bridge/tap setup)
  • Interest in security research or network privacy tools
