Engineering Squad Lead - Engage

About The Position

We are seeking a talented Engineering Squad Lead to join our R&D team and report directly to our Engineering Manager.

As a Technical Squad Leader, you will play a pivotal role in driving the success of the Engage product squad. The squad owns a product end-to-end, and you will be the technical authority responsible for shaping and delivering its technology vision.

You will directly lead a team of engineers (backend and data-engineers), providing hands-on guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure technical excellence and high delivery standards. Working closely with the squad’s Product Manager, Data Scientist, and other stakeholders - you’ll translate goals and requirements into scalable, robust, and innovative technical solutions.

This role is both strategic and practical: you’ll define architecture and best practices, remove obstacles for the team, and contribute code where needed. You’ll also foster a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and accountability, ensuring that the squad operates efficiently and delivers maximum impact.

Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage a squad of Backend and Data Engineers, providing mentorship, coaching, and performance feedback
• Own the squad’s technical vision - from system design and architecture decisions to coding standards and best practices
• Collaborate with the Squad’s Product Manager to align product priorities with technical execution, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery
• Contribute hands-on to code, reviews, and design discussions when needed, setting a high technical bar for the team
• Drive operational excellence by promoting reliability, scalability, security, and efficiency in all solutions
• Foster a strong team culture of collaboration, ownership, innovation, and continuous improvement
• Work closely with the Engineering Manager and other technical leaders to shape engineering-wide practices and influence company-wide technical strategy
  
  

• 6+ years of experience in software engineering, with a strong track record in backend / data systems, and ideally exposure to full-stack or cross-domain cloud based architectures
• Proven experience leading engineering teams (e.g. as a tech lead, team lead, or engineering manager) with direct responsibility for mentoring, performance management and technical direction
• Experience in big data and complex data ecosystems, designing, building, and managing ETLs, data pipelines, and data infrastructure at scale, preferably on AWS
• Experience with Node.js / TypeScript, and Python, alongside deep familiarity with AWS cloud services, 3rd-party API integrations, and robust data fetching and processing workflows
• Excellent communication skills - able to explain technical tradeoffs to non-engineers (PMs, BA, other stakeholders) and influence design decisions
• Demonstrated ability to make architecture tradeoffs (time to market vs. long-term maintainability) and drive delivery under ambiguity
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
