Quantum Experiment Physicist + Programmer

An exciting deep-tech startup developing a cutting-edge photonic device is looking for a Quantum Experiment Physicist and programmer. In this role, you will set up and design advanced optical systems, including:

• Confocal microscopy systems
• Femto lasers
• Optical cryo-systems
• Measurements and photodynamic protocol development including orchestrating multiple lasers, sensors, photon detectors, magnetic components, and various electrical engineering elements.

You will be responsible for building complex optical experiments, and implementing computer-based experimental control from software architecture to execution of the experiments. This includes designing, simulating, and measuring quantum-optic and DC PCB circuits and fully assembled systems. You will utilize advanced simulation and control software to meet performance requirements and optimize design parameters.

The ideal candidate has experience leading end-to-end development of modular control stacks using Python and modern software design patterns (including asynchronous, event-driven architectures), enabling nanosecond-resolved single photon quantum experiments with real-time pulse sequencing, data acquisition, and time-tagging. Experience in bringing prototypes from concept to lab deployment under tight deadlines and managing cross-functional coordination is highly valued.

Requirements:

• Ph.D. / M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering, Electro-optics, Materials Engineering, or Physics. (Postdoctoral and/or industrial experience is an advantage)
• Strong coding skills in Python, with experience in libraries such as PyVISA, QCoDeS, QuTiP, NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, and MATLAB (required)
• Extensive knowledge in quantum optics, quantum information, solid-state spin physics, electromagnetic field engineering (MW excluded), and nanostructuring or semiconductor nanophotonics (required)
• Over 3 years of practical R&D experience with electro-optic systems, optical experiments, and integrating multiple peripherals (lasers, detectors, motors, etc.) including computer-based experimental control
• Experience with photonic and electrical simulation software: RSoft, COMSOL, ANSYS HFSS, Lumerical – a plus
