About the role:

We are looking for a Backend Engineer (Data-Oriented) to join our Data & Backend Infrastructure team.

As a Backend Engineer with a strong data focus, you’ll take ownership of Agora’s data processes—designing, building, and maintaining the ETLs and data pipelines that power our BI and analytics systems. A key part of your role will be developing and improving the data pipelines that onboard new clients, ensuring their data is integrated smoothly and reliably. You’ll make sure our platform remains performant and scalable, enabling hundreds of clients to grow successfully with Agora.

This role combines technical excellence with business impact: you’ll work hands-on with ETLs, data pipelines, databases, and orchestration frameworks, while developing a broad understanding of Agora’s product domains to support data-driven decisions across the company. You’ll collaborate closely with Product, Customer Success, Analytics, DevOps, and other development teams to deliver data solutions that truly move the needle.

About the Team:

The Data & Backend Infrastructure team is on a mission to build reliable and efficient infrastructure that supports Agora’s developers and enhances their Developer Experience (DevEx). We own company-wide foundations such as authentication, data storage, and data processing, ensuring the platform can scale reliably as Agora grows. As part of this team, you’ll help shape the technical backbone that supports our entire engineering organization, working in close collaboration with DevOps and other development teams.

• 5+ years of hands-on experience in backend or data engineering
• Strong experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL preferred) and familiarity with non-relational databases (MongoDB, etc.)
• Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining ETLs and data pipelines
• Experience with data orchestration and workflow management frameworks such as Argo Workflows, Apache Airflow or similar
• Proficiency in Python for backend and data engineering tasks

Bonus:

• Experience developing production-grade APIs
• Node.js / TypeScript backend experience
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, and Infrastructure-as-Code tools
• Experience working with customer onboarding pipelines or client-facing data flows
• Strong business and product domain understanding, with the ability to support data across multiple product areas
• Knowledge of data modeling, BI systems, and analytics infrastructure
