Technologist and NPI Manager

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Technologist and NPI Manager with deep expertise in Surface Mount Technology (SMT) to lead the development and introduction of new electronic products into production. This role combines technical leadership in SMT processes with cross-functional coordination to ensure seamless product launches from prototype to mass production. The ideal candidate has experience in advanced SMT processes, DFM/DFX principles, process optimization, and cross-functional project management.

Key Responsibilities:

NPI Management:

• Lead the end-to-end New Product Introduction (NPI) process for electronic assemblies using SMT.
• Collaborate with R&D, design, quality, and supply chain teams to ensure manufacturability and scalability of new designs.
• Develop and manage NPI schedules, risk assessments, and deliverables to meet project milestones.
• Coordinate first article builds, prototype runs, and design validation testing.

SMT Process Engineering:

• Define, develop, and optimize SMT manufacturing processes including stencil design, solder paste printing, pick & place, reflow soldering, AOI, and SPI.
• Select and qualify SMT materials (solder paste, adhesives, components) and equipment.
• Conduct root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives related to SMT process yield, throughput, and quality.
• Drive implementation of Industry 4.0, Lean Manufacturing, and Six Sigma methodologies in SMT operations.

Technical Leadership:

• Serve as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) for SMT technology and NPI methodologies.
• Develop and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and training materials.
• Lead DFM/DFX reviews and provide feedback to design engineering to ensure production-ready designs.
• Evaluate and introduce new technologies (e.g., jet printing, 3D AOI, X-ray inspection) to enhance process capability.

Quality & Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with IPC-A-610, ISO 9001, and customer-specific quality standards.
• Lead FMEA, control plans, and process capability studies for new products.
• Support internal and external audits related to SMT and NPI processes.

Qualifications:

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
• Master’s degree or PMP certification is a plus.

Experience:

• Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in SMT manufacturing, with at least 3 years in an NPI leadership role.
• Proven track record of launching complex PCB assemblies into mass production.

Skills/Requirements:

• Expert in SMT processes and equipment (e.g., DEK, Fuji, Yamaha, Vitronics, etc.).
• Proficient in DFM/DFX tools (Valor, CAM350, etc.).
• Experience with PLM Agile - strong advantage. 
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems and MES platforms.
• English - professional level in both written and verbal communication.
• Excellent project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Effective communicator and leader capable of driving change and influencing others.
• Ability / willingness to travel abroad.
