Job Description

Surense is looking for a Head of R&D to lead our development team! As a growing bootstrap company, we are looking for an experienced R&D leader to build the company’s R&D strategy, lead software development and architecture, and drive innovative products and solutions with speed and quality.

This is a key leadership role that combines management responsibilities with hands-on development, making a direct impact on our business growth.

Responsibilities

• Define the vision and strategy for R&D, while driving ongoing innovation and execution.

• Manage and lead the technology team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.

• Own current products and lead the development of new ones, including large-scale architecture planning and creating competitive market advantages.

• Ensure stable, secure, scalable, and efficient infrastructure.

• Improve development methodologies and implement advanced best practices (Agile, CI/CD, Cloud Native).

• Partner with the company’s leadership team on long-term business planning and translate business goals into development objectives.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and uphold the highest standards of quality, security, and compliance.

Requirements

• 8+ years of proven experience in technology management and as a hands-on engineer, including leading development teams and technology leadership groups.

• B.Sc. in Computer Science / Software Engineering or related field - required; advanced degree – an advantage.

• Proven experience building SaaS systems.

• Expertise in cloud architecture (AWS) and scalable infrastructures, with experience in Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform).

• Proven experience in backend development and familiarity with frontend frameworks.

• Strong background in Agile methodologies and implementing them to improve R&D performance.

• Deep understanding of the connection between R&D and business goals.

• Experience in Fintech/Insurtech and regulatory environments - advantage.

• High level of English (written, spoken, and reading).
