The Role

As a Business Data Analyst at ControlUp, you will partner with teams across Product, Operations, Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, and Finance to turn data into actionable insights. You will play a critical role in shaping the way we measure performance, track KPIs, and drive business outcomes. This role requires strong technical expertise on the backend side of analytics: building robust data models, working with large-scale datasets, and developing reliable pipelines to ensure our business stakeholders always have access to accurate, timely, and well-structured data. At the same time, you’ll translate these complex foundations into clear, visual stories that influence decision-making at every level of the company.

How You’ll Spend Your Day

• Designing, building, and maintaining reliable backend data models and pipelines to support reporting and analytics
• Identifying, analyzing, and interpreting trends or patterns in complex datasets to drive actionable insights
• Defining and implementing KPIs across different teams
• Accompanying product features from tech design through to performance measurement
• Translating product and business requirements into analytical logic and creating clear visualizations that “tell the story”
  
  

• 4+ years of experience as a Data Analyst or BI Analyst with strong technical foundations
• Advanced SQL skills (query optimization, joins, CTEs, window functions) and experience with large, complex datasets
• Proven experience in data modeling, ETL development, and data warehousing (designing tables, optimizing schemas, ensuring data reliability)
• Hands-on experience with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Redash, or similar
• Ability to translate complex technical processes into clear, business-ready insights
• Experience in fast-paced, high-intensity work environments
• Strong communication and collaboration skills—comfortable working with multiple stakeholders
• A proactive, detail-oriented, can-do attitude, with the ability to work independently
  
  

• Experience with Python or another scripting language (for automation, advanced analytics, or ETL workflows)
• B.S in one of the following: Industrial Engineering, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, or a related field
