Background:
Tropospheric ozone is a major air pollutant that harms human health, damages natural and agricultural vegetation, significantly influences climate, and plays a key role in the removal of other air pollutants from the troposphere. Dry deposition, especially to vegetation, accounts for a large fraction of tropospheric ozone removal (about 20–25% on average). However, this process is currently not well characterized, limiting the ability of air quality and climate models to accurately simulate key atmospheric processes.
This research project, funded by the Israel Science Foundation, aims to develop an improved parameterization of the ozone dry deposition rate for use in air quality and climate models. The project will be based on a comprehensive set of advanced micrometeorological field measurements conducted in forests and agricultural fields under unique environmental conditions. The collected data will be analyzed using dedicated software tools, code, and atmospheric models.
Funding:
A full and high scholarship will be covered by the Israel Science Foundation
