Role Summary:
We are a fast-moving startup developing sophisticated industrial equipment platforms. We are seeking a Systems Engineering Manager to lead our cross-disciplinary team of system engineers. This role is central to defining system architecture, managing requirements, and ensuring subsystem alignment in a complex, multi-disciplinary environment. The Systems Engineering Manager will work closely with other R&D teams, System Integration & Product to deliver robust, scalable systems from concept to commercialization. This role ensures system-level performance, reliability, and scalability while aligning technical execution with business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & People Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of system engineers.
- Define team goals, processes, and best practices for requirements management, architecture, and risk analysis.
- Foster a systems-thinking culture across the company.
System Architecture & Requirements
- Own the definition and decomposition of system-level requirements into subsystem specifications.
- Manage system interfaces across mechanics, electronics, software, and process domains.
- Drive system-level trade-off analyses and design reviews to ensure performance, scalability, and manufacturability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with R&D groups (mechanical, electrical, chemistry, process) to ensure alignment with system architecture.
- Collaborate with the System Integration & Testing group to ensure requirements are verifiable and testable.
- Partner with Product to translate customer needs into technical requirements.
Risk, Quality & Compliance
- Lead system-level risk assessments (FMEA, hazard analysis) and ensure mitigation plans.
- Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.
- Embed “design for reliability, serviceability, and manufacturability” principles into system design.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Systems-Engineering, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 8–12+ years in system engineering or multidisciplinary product development, including 3–5+ years in leadership roles.
- Development of systems based on materials and process along with mechanics and automation.
Technical Skills
- Strong background in system architecture, requirements management, and interface definition.
- Experience with V-model, Agile, or hybrid development lifecycles.
- Familiarity with risk management, FMEA, and system safety.
Leadership Skills
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive complex projects to completion.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to teach, guide, and mentor systems engineers
Key Competencies:
- Systems thinking & holistic problem-solving including hands on.
- Ability to work in high-pressure, fast-moving environments.
- Cross-functional collaboration and influence without authority.
