Senior Software Engineer

Company Description

We’re an early-stage, founder-led healthcare startup building secure, AI-enabled products that streamline clinical workflows, elevate patient support, and give operators real-time visibility. We work directly with provider groups and health-services companies to ship production systems with HIPAA-grade safeguards from day one.

Role Description

You’ll be our first engineering hire and the technical owner from zero-to-one: shaping architecture, writing the critical path code, standing up secure infrastructure, and then recruiting and leading a small team under you. This role is deeply client-facing. You’ll run discovery, translate ambiguous needs into specs, present trade-offs, and land solutions that hold up in production.

Chatbots & Agents: RAG assistants for patient support and clinician workflows with safe logging and guardrails.

Business Automations: Intake, claims/billing checks, provider ops (AI and non-AI).

Interactive Dashboards: Real-time clinical/ops KPIs with drill-downs; privacy-preserving analytics.

You will

• Lead client discovery, requirements capture, and solution design; turn stakeholder goals into crisp, testable deliverables.
• Build secure, HIPAA-compliant backends and APIs (authZ/authN, audit trails, encryption at rest/in transit) with Node.js/Django/FastAPI.
• Ship responsive, accessible dashboards in React for clinicians and ops users.
• Design ETL/data pipelines for messy healthcare data; automate model training, evaluation, and rollout.
• Integrate AI/ML features (chatbots, agents, workflow automations, interactive dashboards) with measurable safety and ROI.
• Own DevOps: CI/CD, observability, cost-aware GPU/TPU workloads on AWS/GCP/Azure, Docker/Kubernetes.
• Establish engineering standards (testing, code review, Git/GitHub workflows, security baselines).
• Hire and mentor a team as we scale.

Qualifications

• 5+ years professional software engineering with end-to-end product ownership.
• Fluent English (written & spoken)—non-negotiable; you’ll lead client calls, write specs, and present to executives.
• Python and JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Frontend: React (or comparable modern framework).
• Backend: Node.js and/or Django/FastAPI; strong API design (REST/GraphQL).
• Data: PostgreSQL/MySQL/MongoDB; sound schema design and migrations.
• Cloud & Ops: AWS/GCP/Azure; Docker; Kubernetes; Git/GitHub.
• Testing & CI/CD: Unit/integration/E2E (e.g., PyTest/Jest/Playwright) and automated pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
• Security & Compliance: Secure coding practices, OAuth2.0/OIDC + JWT, least-privilege IAM, practical HIPAA safeguards (PHI handling, auditability, de-identification).

Strong plus

• Interoperability: HL7/FHIR, SMART on FHIR, EHR integration exposure (Epic/Cerner).
• MLOps: experiment tracking, model/version governance, evals, vector search (pgvector/FAISS), guardrails.
• Data orchestration: Airflow/Prefect, Kafka/streams, queues (Redis/RabbitMQ).
• Infra as Code & compliance literacy: Terraform, SOC 2/ISO 27001.
• Product/commercial acumen: cost–benefit analysis (build vs buy), persuasive proposal/POC development.
