Senior Software Engineer - Kusto Copilot

Microsoft’s Azure Data engineering team is leading the transformation of analytics in the world of data with products like databases, data integration, big data analytics, messaging & real-time analytics, and business intelligence. Our mission is to build the data platform for the age of AI, powering a new class of data-first applications and driving a data culture.

Within Azure Data, the Kusto team delivers a high-scale log analytics platform used across Microsoft and by thousands of customers globally. We power over 400 PB of data ingestion daily across Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Fabric, making Kusto the engine behind mission-critical observability and analytics scenarios.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the AI team within Kusto. This team is responsible for driving all AI capabilities across Kusto. We build the infrastructure and features that power AI in Kusto, from data science models to user-facing capabilities like natural language to KQL. Our work includes embeddings, LLMs, prompt engineering, evaluation pipelines, and everything needed to deliver high-quality AI experiences.

Responsibilities

• Design and build AI infrastructure components to power features across the Kusto platform.
• Lead development of features like natural language to KQL, intelligent recommendations, and semantic understanding.
• Collaborate with data scientists, researchers, and engineers to train, evaluate, and deploy models and embeddings at scale.
• Integrate large language models and embeddings into production systems to enable intelligent user experiences.
• Own the development and operation of AI features, ensuring performance, quality, and reliability.
• Contribute to architectural design and best practices across AI systems.
  
  

Qualifications

Required:

• 6+ years of technical engineering experience in languages such as C#, Python, or Java.
• Experience with building and running cloud services (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
• Experience working on distributed systems at scale.
  
  

Preferred

• Experience applying AI/ML, LLMs, or embeddings in production systems.
• Experience with AI development frameworks and libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, LangChain).
• Strong understanding of prompt engineering, embeddings, and retrieval-based systems.
• Knowledge of Kusto Query Language (KQL) and experience building AI features for developer tools or analytics platforms.
• Passion for innovation, AI, and building intelligent infrastructure at scale.
