Research Position – Sustainable Aquaculture (mic-RAS Project)

The Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research (ZIWR), Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, is seeking a motivated graduate student (or postdoctoral researcher) to join our research team on the mic-RAS (microalgae-integrated Recirculating Aquaculture System) project, led by Prof. Dina Zilberg, Dr. Avner Ronen and Prof. Inna Khozin-Goldberg.

About the Project:

The mic-RAS project develops microalgae-based recirculating aquaculture systems for sustainable freshwater fish farming. Our interdisciplinary research integrates aquaculture, microalgae biotechnology, and membrane processes to improve water quality, enhance fish health, and valorize algal biomass.

Position Responsibilities:

• Conduct experimental research in laboratory- and pilot-scale mic-RAS units.
• Work with microalgae cultivation, fish culture, and membrane-based water treatment.
• Evaluate system performance in terms of nutrient removal, water quality and fish health.
• Analyze data using chemical, microbiological, and imaging tools.
• Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team including aquaculture, environmental engineering, and biotechnology experts.

Qualifications:

• BSc, MSc, or PhD degree in Environmental Engineering, Aquaculture, Microbiology, Biotechnology, or related fields.
• Background in at least one of the following: aquaculture/fish biology, algal biotechnology, membrane processes, or water chemistry.
• Experience with laboratory or pilot-scale systems is an advantage.
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
