Senior Backend Engineer & AI Specialist

We're looking for someone hands-on, curious, and obsessed with code to join our Core Team — the team that builds the backbone of Sunlight's B2B payments infrastructure.

You'll be working on real, meaty problems. Think: scaling critical systems, building AI agents that automate supplier workflows, creating intelligent payment automation, and constantly pushing the boundaries of what's possible. You'll own what you build, see it in production fast, and never stop improving it.

About Sunlight: We're scaling virtual card revenue with AI-powered automation. We're transforming how businesses pay suppliers by eliminating the chaos of manual supplier onboarding and fragmented workflows. Our platform helps fintechs and issuers unlock new revenue streams through intelligent automation.

• 5+ years of backend development experience (Python / Kotlin)
• Strong AI background - you understand how to build AI agents, automation systems, and intelligent workflows
• Experience working on complex systems in the cloud (AWS)
• Someone who lives, breathes, and sleeps code - you're constantly exploring cutting-edge technologies and love innovation
• A disruptive mindset - "if it works, don't touch it" makes you uncomfortable. You see working systems and immediately think of ways to make them better
• Rapid prototyping skills - you can lift a POC from concept to working demo in no time and aren't afraid to break things in the process
• Leadership instincts - you've led a team or taken serious ownership before. We want a doer who can architect solutions
• A relentless engineering mindset: break problems down, get things done, keep standards high, and never settle for "good enough"
