About The Role

We are seeking an AI Infrastructure Lead to design, plan, and lead the buildout of Honeycomb’s next-generation AI infrastructure. This role is critical to scaling our machine learning and generative AI systems across the company. You will work at the intersection of ML engineering, data engineering, and platform reliability — setting the technical vision, building the right foundations (feature store, data pipelines, training/serving environments), and mentoring engineers to deliver production-grade systems.

As the AI Infrastructure Lead, you will be responsible not only for hands-on architecture and implementation, but also for guiding and growing a team of ML and data engineers to ensure Honeycomb’s AI capabilities scale reliably, securely, and cost-effectively.

What You’ll Do

• Define the AI Infra Roadmap: Set the technical strategy for AI/ML infrastructure, including feature stores, large-scale data pipelines, and model training/serving platforms.
• Build Scalable Systems: Architect and oversee the development of robust, real-time and batch ML pipelines (Dagster or equivalent), ensuring reliability, efficiency, and flexibility.
• Productionize Models: Partner with ML researchers and product teams to bring advanced AI models (vision, LLMs, agentic workflows) from prototype to production.
• Lead & Mentor Engineers: Provide technical leadership and mentorship to ML and data engineers, establishing best practices in infrastructure design, coding standards, and operational excellence.
• Optimize Compute & Cost: Own the efficient use of compute resources (GPU/CPU/memory) across GCP and hybrid environments, balancing performance with cost.
• Champion Reliability & Monitoring: Establish automated monitoring, observability, and drift detection systems to keep models performant and trustworthy at scale.
• Drive Innovation: Continuously evaluate and integrate emerging infrastructure technologies that can give Honeycomb’s AI platform a competitive edge.
  
  

• B.Sc. in Computer Science or an equivalent
• 7+ years of experience in ML/AI infrastructure, MLOps, or data engineering
• At least 2–3 years in a technical leadership role.
• Proven experience architecting and deploying production ML/AI systems at scale.
• Deep understanding of data pipelines, feature stores, and distributed compute environments.
• Expertise with modern ML infrastructure (e.g., GCP, Kubernetes, Docker, Dagster, MLFlow, TorchServe, BentoML).
• Strong background in Python and experience with large-scale systems and automation.
• Hands-on experience with CI/CD for ML and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or equivalent).
• Track record of leading engineering teams, setting technical direction, and driving execution.
