Director, Engineering

PayZen is a pioneering FinTech startup committed to solving healthcare affordability challenges. Backed by top-tier global investors, we provide interest-free, fee-free payment plans for patients, while helping healthcare providers improve cash flow and repayment rates.

We are looking for an experienced Director of Engineering to lead and mentor engineers, while contributing hands-on to the development of our scalable FinTech platform. This role combines leadership, architecture ownership, and coding in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

What You Will Do

• Take ownership of complex projects from design to production, ensuring timely delivery and high standards.
• Define technical direction and ensure high-quality architecture, design, and implementation.
• Ensure operational excellence, including performance, scalability, and security.
• Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend developers, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
• Collaborate with product managers and other engineering leaders to deliver innovative, user-centric products.
• Promote the writing of clean, efficient, and testable code while guiding best practices for the team.
• Drive process improvements, code quality, and technical innovation within the team.
• Participate in architectural decisions, and align development efforts with business priorities.
  
  

• 8+ years of backend development experience, including 4+ years in a leadership or Director, Engineering role.
• Proven experience with Node.js (3+ years in production) and TypeScript (advantage).
• Proven experience with Docker, Kubernetes (K8s), and AWS deployment
• Strong understanding of software architecture and system design.
• Experience background in data modeling and schema design, especially with PostgreSQL. Experience designing and implementing testing strategies (unit, integration, end-to-end).
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams.
• A track record of successfully delivering projects end-to-end.
• Passion for mentoring others and improving engineering culture.
• Fluent English, both written and verbal.
