VP R&D (Portfolio Company)

A company in our portfolio is seeking a senior R&D leader to join its executive team and drive the company’s technology vision.This role offers the opportunity to lead a high-impact engineering organization and shape innovative products for global markets.

In this role, you will:

• Lead the full R&D lifecycle—from concept and prototyping to development, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
• Define and implement the technology roadmap; make architecture and technology stack decisions that balance innovation, performance, and maintainability.
• Manage and mentor a multidisciplinary engineering team
• Promote a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and accountability; adopt and refine development best practices.
• Collaborate with product, business, and executive teams to align technology initiatives with business goals and customer needs.
• Oversee recruitment, professional development, and team structure to meet organizational objectives.

The ideal candidate has:

• 5–10+ years in R&D leadership (VP or equivalent), preferably within startup environments.
• Demonstrated success scaling teams of 30–50+ engineers, ideally in SaaS.
• Strong foundation in software architecture, coding practices, and system design.
• Familiarity with modern development technologies and cloud infrastructure.
• Proven ability to inspire, mentor, and develop technical talent.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Prior experience in a startup environment and/or delivering products in regulated or global markets
