Backend Team Lead - 50% Hands on

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Backend Team Lead to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll balance hands-on backend development with leading a talented team to deliver scalable, secure, and high-quality solutions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, drive technical excellence, and ensure alignment with product goals.

This position involves backend development in a Java-based environment, so familiarity with Java or the ability to ramp up quickly is important. If you’re passionate about backend engineering, technical leadership, and solving complex challenges, we’d love to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities:

• Team Coordination: Lead and support the backend team by setting clear objectives, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring timely delivery.
• Hands-On Development: Write, review, and maintain backend code while promoting coding best practices.
• Technical Leadership: Contribute to system architecture, performance tuning, and backend infrastructure in collaboration with other teams.
• Agile Collaboration: Work closely with product managers and scrum teams to manage sprint planning, oversee Jira tasks, and ensure CI/CD integration.
• Product Partnership: Translate product requirements into technical solutions and use data insights to guide feature development.
• Quality Assurance: Champion coding standards, test-driven development, and overall system reliability.
• Problem Solving: Serve as a technical expert and mentor, identifying areas for improvement and optimizing development workflows.

Qualifications:

Experience:

• 5+ years of backend development experience in one or more modern programming languages (e.g. Java, Python, JavaScript, etc.).
• 1+ years of experience leading a team or serving as a technical lead.

Technical Skills:

• Strong SQL expertise, including query optimization and data management.
• Experience with scalable system architecture, microservices, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Familiarity with building secure and performant backend systems.
• Experience or openness to working in Java-based environments.
