🧪 Postdoctoral Position in Surface Chemistry and Spectroscopy

We invite applications for a postdoctoral researcher to join the lab of Dr. Shahar Dery, whose group explores the interfaces of high spatial resolution spectroscopy, heterogeneous catalysis, organometallic chemistry and electrochemistry, with a particular focus on redox-active metal complexes and their surface reactivity.

The successful candidate will lead or contribute to one or more of the following projects:

• Synthesis and study of carbene-based complexes of late transition metals.
• Deposition and activation of molecular precursors on metal and oxide surfaces.
• Mechanistic and spectroscopic investigation of small molecule activation (e.g., CO₂, CO).
• Exploration of redox and coordination properties via IR and X-ray and NMR spectroscopies
• Designing new classes of heterogeneous catalysts.

• Organometallic synthesis, ligand design, and complex characterization
• Surface modification, thin film preparation, and in situ reactivity studies
• Electrochemical measurements (CV, EIS) and advanced spectroscopies (XPS, XANES, NQR)
• Data analysis and interpretation related to electronic structure and bonding
• Collaboration with interdisciplinary researchers and mentoring of students
• Dissemination of results through peer-reviewed publications and conferences

• PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related field
• Strong background in surface science, catalysis, inorganic, or organometallic chemistry
• Experience in one or more of the following: electrochemistry, surface science, spectroscopy (XPS, XAS, NMR)
• Proven track record of research productivity
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills

• Location: Ramat Gan, Israel (Bar-Ilan University campus)
• Start Date: Flexible (preferred October 2025)
• Duration: 1 year initially, renewable based on performance.
• Salary: Competitive, based on university and national standards
