BGN, the technology transfer company of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, is seeking a Patent Paralegal to assist in managing the company’s IP portfolio.
Location: Hybrid work model, based in Be’er Sheva
Key Responsibilities:
- Working under the direction of the VP of Intellectual Property to provide end-to-end management of intellectual property (IP) portfolio
- Updating and maintaining patent records in the company’s IP management system
- Tracking and monitoring deadlines, such as filing dates for various application types, renewals, responses to Office Actions, etc.
- Handling new invention disclosure forms received from researchers: reviewing for completeness, making updates, creating alerts in the patent system
- Preparing and monitoring the company’s patent committees
- Managing patent-related documents, such as assignments, powers of attorney, declarations, etc.
- Ongoing communication with various external parties: researchers, patent attorneys, entrepreneurs, licensees, and patent offices
- Working closely with BGN's teams, particularly the Business Development, Finance, and Legal teams, to support IP-related processes
- Monitoring and managing patent renewals
- Assisting in the preparation of commercialization agreements, such as drafting patent appendices and expense summaries, at the request of the Legal and Business Development departments
- Reviewing and analyzing commercialization agreements involving IP and updating relevant information in the company’s internal system
- Handling patent invoices: obtaining quotes from attorneys, processing invoices for payment, and tracking patent-related budgets
- Contributing to the development, updating, and preparation of internal procedures and documentation for the patent department and the company
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum)
- Prior experience as a patent paralegal. Experience in a Tech Transfer Office or commercial company – an advantage
- Native-level Hebrew, and native or near-native English
- Knowledge in the patent laws, terminology, processes, and systems
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, accountability, and good communication
- Initiative, ability to learn new technologies and procedures, and a collaborative work style
- Experience with patent databases and renewal systems – an advantage
- Experience in handling invoices and budgets – an advantage
