Backend & Platform Team lead

An Israeli AI and Machine Learning startup, located in Herzliya, recently acquired by a high-profile American corporate, is hiring a Backend & Platform Team lead:

Join us as a Backend & Platform Engineering Team Lead and lead a high-impact team driving innovation across our Data Science PaaS and open-source MLOps and GenAI projects. 

In this role, you’ll apply your leadership experience to shape and evolve a modern, rapidly maturing codebase, working deeply within the Kubernetes ecosystem and solving a range of complex infrastructure challenges. As both a people and technology leader, you’ll foster a culture of excellence, ownership, and continuous learning. You’ll be responsible for mentoring and growing engineers, guiding key architectural decisions, and delivering scalable, production-grade solutions in Python and Go. You'll join a fast-moving team tackling real-world problems with cutting-edge technologies—and play a pivotal role in defining the future of AI in production.

Your responsibilities will include:

·       Leading, mentoring, and growing a team of backend engineers working on our platform and open-source contributions

·       Owning the delivery of key features and initiatives, from discovery and design through implementation and integration

·       Driving architectural decisions and ensuring alignment with product and business goals

·       Collaborating cross-functionally with product, QA, and data science teams to deliver a seamless ML and generative AI experience

·       Encouraging engineering best practices, code quality, and operational excellence across the team

·       Contributing hands-on to the codebase when needed, setting the technical bar and leading by example

·       Bringing in innovation and technical exploration in areas like distributed systems, Kubernetes, and cloud-native infrastructure

Your qualifications and skills

·       6+ years of proven experience managing or leading engineering teams, including hiring, performance management, and career growth

·       Strong background in backend development and systems architecture, particularly with Python and/or Go

·       Hands-on experience with distributed systems, microservices, and cloud-native technologies

·       Deep understanding of the Kubernetes ecosystem and modern platform engineering practices

·       Track record of delivering production-grade systems, with an emphasis on scalability, reliability, and security

·       Passion for building high-performing teams and cultivating an environment of collaboration and accountability
