The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly experienced and hands-on VP / Director of R&D to lead our core technology development. This pivotal role involves taking full responsibility for managing and guiding the entire R&D team, driving both day-to-day execution and the strategic direction of our proprietary 3D technology and algorithms.

You will work closely with the CEO to translate the company's business objectives into a clear technical roadmap, ensuring alignment between technology, product vision, and company goals, and supporting both near-term deliverables and long-term innovation.

Our technology stack includes iOS scanning apps, AWS cloud infrastructure, and a Blender/Python 3D processing pipeline within an AI-driven design workflow.

Key responsibilities

• Strategic leadership - Define and shape the strategic direction of Gero3D's core 3D technology, working in close collaboration with the CEO to establish the roadmap.
• Team management & mentorship - Lead, manage, and mentor a high-performing team of software and algorithm developers, fostering a culture of excellence.
• Lead the on-going development - Drive the continued development and enhancement of our custom 3D cast generation engine, leveraging Blender and Python.
• Architecture & algorithms - Architect and implement new 3D features and algorithms, ensuring high-quality delivery, performance optimization, and reliability across our stack.
• Product ownership - Collaborate with mobile (Swift) and backend (Python/Node.js) development teams to ensure smooth system integration and a cohesive end-to-end platform.
• Technological vision - Drive technical decision-making and establish the long-term architecture for the company’s core technology.
• Innovation - Identify and champion opportunities for innovation in 3D modeling, automation, and AI-assisted geometry processing to maintain Gero3D's market leadership.

Requirements:

• 7+ years of experience in software engineering
• 3+ years of leading development teams in a product-oriented environment
• 3+ years of hands-on experience in 3D programming or computational geometry
• Strong architectural / hands-on experience in Python and Blender (or similar 3D tools such as Rhino/Grasshopper, Unity, etc.)
• Expertise in defining and optimizing R&D processes and methodologies
• Solid understanding of 3D data structures, mesh processing, and geometry algorithms
• Familiarity with serverless cloud architecture (preferably AWS)
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a pragmatic approach to technical challenges
• Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and project management skills
• Self-driven, proactive, and excited to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven startup

Bonus Points For:

• Prior experience in MedTech, 3D printing, or biomechanical modeling
• Experience with data modeling and database interactions
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
