VP Engineering

Role Overview:

As the VP of Engineering, you will be responsible for leading our development efforts, setting the technical vision, and executing a strategy that aligns with our business objectives. You will build and manage a high-performing R&D leadership team, ensuring they have the vision, structure, and support to drive innovation and execution at scale. This role demands a hands-on, highly technical leader with a deep cybersecurity background, startup experience, and the ability to balance innovation with execution while demonstrating authenticity, empathy, and humility.

LayerX Security:

LayerX’s user-first browser security platform turns any browser into the most protected & manageable workspace by providing real-time monitoring and governance over users’ activities on the web. We protect the enterprise’s applications, data, and devices from web-borne risks with near-zero impact on user experience.

Responsibilities:

• Strategy: Define and drive the R&D vision, strategy, and roadmap aligned with company goals. You will make strategic decisions regarding technology choices, team structure, and prioritization.
• Building teams: Lead, mentor, and inspire a growing team of 30 people. Our culture is built on accountability, collaboration, and high performance. You will develop and empower the R&D leaders, ensuring they are equipped to manage their teams effectively and retain talent. You will build and scale high-functioning teams, foster excellence and continuous learning - with a strong commitment to both innovation and people development.
• Executive leadership: As a member of the executive leadership team, challenge assumptions and ask insightful questions, to drive critical thinking and better decision-making. Collaborate with product teams, customer success and sales engineering to integrate R&D efforts into commercial products. Report directly to the CTO and provide insights on technological advancements and security trends.
• Cross-team leadership: Lead on-site and remote teams across R&D, architecture, infrastructure and DevOps.
  
  

• Proven successful experience (10+ years) in leadership of highly functioning R&D teams (40+ people) in cybersecurity, in fast-growing tech companies or startups.
• Highly technical background with deep expertise in cybersecurity domains such as threat detection, secure software development, AI/ML for security, and network security.
• Hands-on experience in architecting and implementing security solutions, with the ability to dive into technical challenges alongside the team.
• Exceptional people and leadership skills with a history of building, motivating, and retaining high-performing leaders and teams.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
