Two Postdoctoral Positions - Photoactive Materials and Devices Lab – Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (Israel)

The Photoactive Materials and Devices Lab is seeking two postdoctoral researchers. The candidates will work on projects aimed at understanding and improving the performance of metal-oxide photoabsorbers. The lab combines advanced materials synthesis (thin film deposition via PVD methods), advanced microwave and optical spectroscopy, and device-level testing to investigate photogeneration, transport, and interfacial charge dynamics in metal-oxide systems.

Position 1: Growth and Scale-Up of Metal-Oxide Thin Film Photoelectrodes for green hydrogen generation

This position involves the fabrication, optimization, and upscaling of photoelectrodes based on transition metal oxides. Materials will be deposited via physical vapor deposition (PVD) techniques and integrated into functional photoelectrochemical devices.

Requirements:

PhD in materials science, chemistry, physics, or related field

Experience in one or more of the following:

• Thin film deposition via PVD methods (e.g., sputtering, PLD, evaporation)
• Photoelectrochemical characterization techniques
• Optical (transfer matrix method) simulations or device-level simulations

Position 2: Charge Carrier Dynamics in Oxide Photoabsorbers

This position focuses on time-resolved microwave conductivity (TRMC) measurements made at varying temperatures to probe the dynamics of mobile charge carriers in complex oxide semiconductors. The candidate will be responsible for performing temperature-dependent TRMC studies and integrating microwave instrumentation with optical systems.

Requirements:

PhD in physics, electrical engineering, materials science, or related field

Expertise in one or more of the following:

• Microwave engineering
• Low-temperature instrumentation and characterization
• Experience with pulsed laser operation and optical alignment

Contract Details:

Start date: Immediate

Duration: 1 year, with possibility of extension up to 3 years

Location: Ben-Gurion University, Beer-Sheva, Israel
