Data Center Technician

As a Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT), you will develop an understanding of standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning equipment under the guidance of more experienced Data Center colleagues. As a CO+I DCT, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. • Demonstrate a strong understanding of standard operating procedures and proactively share knowledge to support efficient workflows.
• Prepare and execute hardware startups and shutdowns, guide peers, and escalate issues when necessary. Perform quality checks to ensure compliance with safety and deployment standards.
• Conduct basic diagnostics and troubleshooting, replacing faulty components with minimal supervision. Follow incident reporting procedures and manage hardware decommissioning for refresh cycles.
• Track issues, support client interactions, and stay informed on key performance indicators. Develop familiarity with cross-functional support processes and complete all required training.
• Adhere to all safety, security, and data handling protocols. Foster a positive team environment by sharing insights, responding to feedback, and modeling best practices.
• Take ownership of the physical infrastructure and contribute to the overall reliability and performance of the data center.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

• Completed High/Secondary School, GED, an apprenticeship/vocational qualification, or equivalent experience and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  
  

Background Check Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
  
  

While not required, we also look for the following Preferred Qualifications:

• 1+ years' experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
• Applicable certifications: CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC).
