Role Overview

As the Backend Engineer at XG University, you will architect and maintain the core systems that

drive our AI-powered learning platform. You’ll be responsible for designing scalable APIs,

managing high-performance databases, and integrating AI services into our educational

backend—all within a type-safe, developer-friendly environment.

You’ll work closely with our frontend, DevOps, and AI teams to ensure that students receive

fast, seamless, and reliable learning experiences. From clean code to deep system thinking,

you’ll be a foundational part of building a platform that redefines how personalized,

university-level education is delivered worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

API Development

Design and implement type-safe tRPC procedures

Build and maintain Express.js microservices

Implement proper error handling and logging

Database Management

Design and maintain database schemas

Write and manage database migrations

Optimize database queries

Testing & Quality

Write comprehensive unit tests

Implement integration tests

Maintain test coverage standards

AI Integration

Integrate with AI services

Manage conversation state and context

Handle AI service errors and retries

Code Quality

Write clean, maintainable code

Follow TypeScript best practices

Document code and APIs

Preferred Abilities

-5+ years of experience in backend development

-Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js

-Experience with tRPC, Express.js, and Zod

-Familiarity with monorepo architecture and modular service design

-Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, schema design, and ORM tools (Drizzle ORM preferred)

-Experience integrating with AI or conversational APIs

-Competence with Docker and containerized environments

-Strong testing practices and experience with frameworks like Vitest

-Proficiency in English

-Bonus: experience in EdTech platforms or large-scale API infrastructure
