Call for Tenure-Track Faculty Position in Experimental Fluid Dynamics, Aerodynamics, and Aerospace Engineering
The School of Mechanical Engineering (ME) in the Faculty of Engineering at Tel-Aviv University, Israel, invites exceptional faculty candidates to apply for a full-time tenure-track faculty position at all levels (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor) commensurate with qualifications.
The School of ME is dedicated to exceptional research and teaching. Our research and teaching areas encompass the extensive field of mechanical engineering, including solid and fluid mechanics, aerodynamics, sustainable energy, environmental engineering, biomechanics, mechanical systems and design methodologies, robotics, and autonomous systems. The school features 28 full-time faculty members, 15 active emeritus faculty, 20 external lecturers from the industry and national research institutes, and 20 post-doctoral researchers. The expanding student body consists of approximately 1,000 students, of which 650 are undergraduates and 350 are pursuing MS or PhD degrees. More information about our ME School is available at https://engineering.tau.ac.il/School-of-Mechanical-Engineering
This call centers on advancing research and education while overseeing the established experimental aerodynamics laboratory, which features four wind tunnels. One notable tunnel measures 3' x 2' x 20m and achieves an exceptionally low turbulence level of 0.04%. A precision-crafted flat plate is utilized to explore turbulent boundary layers and their link to instabilities that may influence skin friction and separation control. Additionally, the two-stream mixing layer tunnel, equipped with heating elements at the entry of one stream, allows for the examination of the validity of Reynolds' analogy between eddy viscosity and thermal diffusivity for a turbulent Prandtl number of 1. Furthermore, a 3' x 2' closed-loop tunnel is employed for active flow control on wings and UCAVs, alongside an open environmental wind tunnel. More information about the laboratory can be found on the website http://aerolab.sties.tau.ac.il.
Qualifications: Candidates with a strong background in relevant areas of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and related fields are encouraged to apply. Applicants must hold a PhD, and post-doctoral research experience abroad is highly recommended. The successful applicant will be expected to provide high-quality teaching and develop an externally funded, innovative research program. Applicants should submit the following documents: 1) Curriculum Vitae, 2) Research Statement, 3) Teaching Statement, 4) Names and contact information for at least four professional recommenders who know or have collaborated with the applicant, and 5) Names and contact information for at least four prominent individuals in the field with whom the applicant has no prior collaboration. A complete application package should be sent electronically in PDF format to the School Head via email at: mehead@tauex.tau.ac.il
