Senior Underwriter

The Senior Underwriter is tasked with the review of merchant applications by systematically researching and verifying the accuracy of any statements and/or documentation provided and examining the validity of the merchant’s business model and sales practices in light of internal and external acceptance policies and guidelines.

This is a full-time position reporting directly to the Underwriting Team Leader.

Key Responsibilities:

• Receive applications from various internal sources and make sure these are correct and in line with our procedures and guidelines.
• Review merchant applications and approve or reject them along with providing an explanation as to any outstanding points.
• Track the status of ongoing applications and create scheduled reports to reflect all open cases and their status.
• Analyze data to assess the potential risk posed by insuring or lending to the applicant.
• Maintain contact with partners as well as internal stakeholders and facilitating in achieving a favorable outcome for applications.
• Stay informed about industry regulations, laws, and standards to ensure that all underwriting decisions comply with legal requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Previous experience in underwriting- at least 1 year
• High level of English: writing, reading & speaking
• A bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business or a related field -an advantage
• Ability to assess complex data, identify patterns, and make informed decisions based on the analysis.
