Head of Engineering - Sprout

Sprout is building an AI-powered companion that helps kids with routines, learning, rewards, and screen time through tasks, voice interactions, and playful real-world challenges.

We believe AI should help kids build real skills, not just consume more content.

We have a working foundation, a small focused team, and a clear plan. We are now looking for a builder and technical leader to help turn it into something families can rely on every day.

As Head of Engineering, you will take full ownership of Sprout’s technical foundation.

You will build and scale the backend hands-on while working directly with the founder (ex-poduct leader at Meta) to define the technical vision.

You will own the backend and infrastructure, and guide the work of the Mobile and Web development teams to ensure the full system scales safely and cleanly.

This is a founding role for someone who is both a hands-on builder and the technical leader of the company.

What You’ll Lead

• Building and scaling the backend architecture
• Designing APIs that connect mobile, web, backend, and AI systems
• Owning cloud infrastructure, security, authentication, and scaling
• Guiding mobile and web engineers toward a unified, scalable system
• Establishing technical standards, deployment processes, and scaling strategies
• Hiring and building the broader technical team over time

Who you are

• A hands-on technical leader with strong backend engineering and architecture skills
• Experienced in designing secure systems, real-time architecture, and scalable APIs
• Comfortable building backend systems yourself while managing other engineers
• Experienced leading technical projects or small teams, with a focus on execution and scaling
• Ready to take responsibility for mobile and web engineering teams while owning backend development directly
• Ready to own DevOps, cloud infrastructure, and production reliability early
• Excited about AI, mobile, and building products that serve kids and families
• Hungry to build, lead, and scale technology from zero to one
• Bonus if you have experience in AI-driven products, mobile-first apps, or kid/family technologies.
