Head of Artificial Intelligence

A biotech Early-stage Start-Up focused on advancing cutting-edge therapeutic gene editing

technologies is seeking a passionate and driven Head of AI to join a team of experienced

Responsibilities

● Create and execute a long-term AI strategy that fits with the company’s goals and

roadmap, focusing on the development of predictive capabilities of biological LLMs.

● Define research goals, identify milestones and KPIs to track progress towards them.

● Serve as the go-to expert on all latest Generative AI and Computational advancements

to ensure the team uses best-in-class methods and tools.

● Lead efforts of building Genomic Foundational Models (GFMs) for solving genome

editing problems, and provide technical leadership to both AI Scientists and ML

engineers.

● Design, develop and implement computational prediction and ranking models for

genome editing based on biological LLMs.

● Collaborate with biology (computational and wet lab) experts to integrate their insights

into the AI roadmap, validate computational predictions and integrate experimental data

● Lead strategic AI collaborations with external partners and organizations.

● Develop pipelines for model training, finetuning, inference and evaluation.

● Communicate complex technical information effectively to both technical and

non-technical audiences.

● Mentor and coach other team members

Core Competencies

● Deep understanding of GFMs and LLMs architecture and how to utilize them for

predictions in genomics.

● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively

across multidisciplinary teams.

● Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a proven track record of addressing

complex scientific challenges.

● Ability to work on ambiguous problems while defining goals & targets for them.

Qualifications & Technical Skills

● Ph.D. in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computational Biology or a related

field. Exceptional candidates with an M.Sc. degree and relevant experience will also be

considered.

● 8+ years of industry experience in AI research.

● Published high-impact papers in peer-reviewed AI journals & conferences

● Deep knowledge in ML/AI/DL and in Generative methods

● Proficiency in developing and debugging in Python and PyTorch

● Experience with ML tools and frameworks for building and experimenting with

generative/predictive models

● (Advantage) Experience working with omics data e.g. DNA, RNA, proteins, small

molecules

● (Advantage) Experience working with biological GFMs and pLMs e.g. Evo2, NT2,

DNABert2, HyenaDNA, ESM, ProteinMPNN.

● (Advantage) Familiarity with CRISPR/Cas systems and other genome editing

technologies.

● Excellent oral and written communication skills.
