About the Role

We are looking for a Data Engineer Team Leader to lead our new Data team. In this role, you will take ownership of the existing data pipelines, development and maintenance of both the On-Premises data pipeline running on vessels (handling large-scale, real-time video streams operating 24/7), as well as the cloud (AWS) data pipelines running over Kafka and Spark.

The role is primarily focused on the on-premises data infrastructure, with involvement in cloud-based systems for data processing and feature development. You’ll collaborate closely with architects, DevOps, product managers, and algorithm engineers, ensuring high performance and reliability across our systems.

This is a founding team role—you’ll be instrumental in shaping the data engineering roadmap and responsible for hiring and mentoring engineers in Israel and APAC.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Data Engineering team, providing both technical direction and day-to-day team leadership.
• Own the design, implementation, and optimization of data pipelines across on-prem and cloud (AWS) environments.
• Guide the team in maintaining and evolving existing pipelines to support product scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Partner with data scientists and algorithm engineers to deploy ML models efficiently in production environments.
• Integrate on-premises data pipelines with cloud infrastructure for seamless data flow and publishing.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Computer Vision, Shore Operations, Product, DevOps) to deliver new features and system improvements.
• Drive technical design reviews, enforce high engineering standards, and ensure code quality.
• Stay current with data engineering best practices and drive innovation across the stack.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex data infrastructure issues.
• Mentor and grow team members, and foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Lead and support recruitment efforts to build a strong, engaged, and distributed team.
• Align technical execution with broader business goals and customer impact.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on experience building and maintaining production-grade data pipelines.
• 2+ years of experience managing engineering teams.
• Strong development experience in Python and Scala.
• Deep experience with Linux-based on-prem environments.
• Strong understanding of AWS cloud services and infrastructure.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes in production environments.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience integrating machine learning models into production data pipelines.

Nice to Have

• Proven track record of managing remote or offshore developers.
• Experience with video/image processing workflows.
• Hands-on experience with PostgreSQL & Spark.

Our offices in Tel Aviv are located at 103 HaHashmonaim Street. We work in a hybrid model and come to the office twice a week.
