Director of Product Engineering

The Role

JoVE is seeking a Director of Product Engineering to lead the Engineering team in delivering innovative software solutions for science research and education. This is a remote position reporting to the VP of Technology. Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of 30 Software Engineers and Engineering Managers to design and deliver high-quality products and platforms.
• Define and implement the software development strategy, including best practices and AI-assisted development, to drive efficiency and ensure the timely delivery.
• Collaborate with Product Management on design of new products and solutions.
• Proactively identify and eliminate impediments with a strong sense of urgency.
• Monitor and evaluate software engineering metrics, such as code quality, performance, and team productivity, and take necessary actions to drive continuous improvement.
• Cultivate a collaborative atmosphere that champions execution, initiative, creativity, continuous learning and open attitude to new ideas.
• Work with international teams across the Americas, Europe and Asia.

Requirements:

• Bachelor degree in computer science or related field.
• 10+ years of experience designing and developing high quality software at scale.
• 5+ years of management experience.
• Experience driving engineering strategy and long-term roadmap, and scaling teams sustainably. Demonstrated ability managing performance, setting expectations, and building and maintaining a high-performing team.
• Experience with core stack including AWS, Next.js, PHP, Continuous Integration / Continuous Delivery (CICD) model, including GitHub and CI pipeline automation tools.
• Experience with best-practice agile development processes and tools (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, XP, test-driven development, continuous integration, etc.) and collaboration and issue-tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, Rally).
• Experience with data-driven architecture and systems design, RESTful APIs, and microservices architecture.
• Experience working and leading international teams.
• Self-driven and pro-active.
