Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
- Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.
- Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine.
- Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader-one and a half cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck.
- Maintains construction project records and processes related paperwork.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Education: No education required.
Experience: GTT I = No experience required; GTT II = 1 year experience*;
- Experience must be in transportation engineering support, roadway maintenance, construction inspection, heavy equipment operation, or related work experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part-time equivalent). Related technical training or education from an accredited institution may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications .
- Valid driver’s license at the time of application. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
- Must have a Commercial Class "A" Driver's License with an "N" Endorsement or have obtained a CDL "A” License, with an "N" Endorsement within 180 calendar days from date of employment.

- Fingering-picking, pinching, typing; working primarily with fingers rather than whole hand
- Grasping-applying pressure to an object with fingers and palm
- Feeling-determining size, shape, temperature or texture of objects
- Repetitive Motion-substantial movements of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Close Visual Acuity-work includes visual inspection of small defects/parts
- Close Visual Acuity-using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts
- Visual Acuity-operate machines, such as drill presses, power saws, and mills
- Visual Acuity-determine work quality/make general observations of facilities/structures

- This job has been identified as physically demanding and will require a pre-employment physical.
- Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions. This is a Safety Impact position and will be subject to random drug testing.

- Must be able to report for duty within 45minutes of notification on a 24-hour basis to respond to emergency situations.

Salary/Plan Grade:
General Transportation Tech I: A16 $50,000 - $61,130 / Yearly
General Transportation Tech II: A17 $50,000 - $64,469 / Yearly
