Lead Backend Engineer

As a Lead Backend Engineer, you will play a dual role—contributing hands-on to our backend architecture while ensuring the team follows agile best practices. You will help build scalable microservices, integrate IoT devices, and optimize cloud-native deployments. Additionally, you will facilitate sprint planning, retrospectives, and stand-ups, ensuring the team remains productive and aligned with business goals.

What you’ll do:

Backend Engineering & System Architecture

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of backend microservices using Python (Django/FastAPI) running on Kubernetes.
• Optimize and enhance APIs to support scalable backend services and ensure high availability.
• Implement and maintain data ingestion pipelines, integrating IoT devices like IP cameras and sensors into the system.
• Collaborate with internal teams to develop and refine robust software architecture that supports our growing platform.
• Ensure reliability, performance, and security of backend services, working with DevOps to streamline deployments.

Cloud Infrastructure & DevOps

• Oversee cloud-native deployments using AWS (EKS, EC2, S3, Amazon MQ, RDS, ElastiCache), Kubernetes, and Docker.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, leveraging GitOps best practices to automate and accelerate deployments.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in distributed cloud environments.

Leadership & Agile Facilitation

• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
• Act as a Scrum Master, facilitating sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups to drive agile best practices.
• Improve team efficiency by identifying and eliminating blockers, ensuring a smooth development workflow.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to refine requirements and technical roadmaps, ensuring smooth project execution.
• Communicate technical decisions effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For:

Experience:

• 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer, with a focus on cloud technologies and distributed systems.
• Prior experience leading junior developers and guiding best practices.
• Familiarity with agile methodologies, including hands-on experience as a Scrum Master (CSM/PSM certification is a plus).

Technical Skills:

Must-Have:

• Strong experience with Python (Django/FastAPI).
• Proficiency in Kubernetes & Docker for managing microservices.
• AWS infrastructure experience, including EC2, S3, RDS, EKS, ElastiCache, Amazon MQ.
• Database expertise with PostgreSQL and Redis.
• Solid understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP) and distributed systems.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Git.

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have):

• Experience integrating IoT devices like IP cameras and sensors.
• Exposure to video surveillance technologies or data ingestion pipelines.
• Familiarity with Vue.js or frontend fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript).
