Information Technology System Engineer

Role Summary/Purpose:

The IT System Engineer is expected to deliver IT Infrastructure on different projects in parallel (mainly system infrastructures and related third party software’s configuration and deployment activities), and also work in conjunction with a project engineering team based in Romania and abroad, aimed to successfully support the global solutions delivered by the regional project teams.

Essential Responsibilities:

• Act as a business developer towards the internal teams and/or stakeholders, while also ensuring quality of deliverables.
• Work with technical experts and end users to understand business requirements and identify infrastructure solutions.
• Participate in the translation of architecture documents into detailed design and configuration specifications.
• Lead in the areas of Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat Linux technologies and products, providing subject matter expertise.
• Develop and maintain detailed technical knowledge of the specifications, operation, and diagnostics of products while maintaining familiarity with competing products.
• Monitor, troubleshoot, administer and systems tuning (operating systems & hardware)
• Perform upgrades and testing for systems hardware, software and third-party tools
• Perform system management activities including backup management, storage management and system sizing and patch management.
• Participate in project planning, requirement gathering, development, testing, implementation, training, and support when needed.

Qualifications/Requirements:

• Fluent English speaker and writing
• Degree or Diploma in Computer Science and/or equivalent experience
• Proven track record of problem analysis, identification and resolution
• Flexibility to travel to customer sites when required
• Excellent communication skills, commitment, discipline, positive attitude, following management prioritization, accountability and flexibility
• Customer facing experience is mandatory.
• Strong communicator able to juggle multi-tasking in a high-pressure environment
• Highly motivated, credible, self-starting, a sense of urgency, a bias to action, good judgment, level-headed under pressure – focused on outcomes for the customer and GE.
• Ability to apply advanced aspects of technical/engineering area to practical business problems.
• Excellent knowledge within complex infrastructure design and implementation.
• Significant experience with Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Windows Server.
• Extended knowledge of Active Directory Group Policies.
• Extended knowledge on infrastructure security and best practices.
• Strong networking skills.
• Strong knowledge of storage area networks.
• Strong knowledge of both classic server/client and hypervisor backup solutions.
• Strong understanding of ITIL and change management policies and procedures.

• Experience with configuration management tools.
• Experience of Installation, Configuration and Admin with VMware products (ESX, vSphere, vCenter, HA, vMotion, etc.).
• Experience in scripting and automation tools.
• In depth experience with an array of clustering technologies, encryption and virtualization technologies.
• Knowledge of monitoring technologies and best practices.
• Should have a prior experience in systems engineering & design.
• Relevant experience in other operating systems is considered a plus.
• Relevant experience in System Center Configuration Manager is considered an asset.

• VMWare NSX - Install, Configure, Manage
• Imperva Database Protection, Database Security & Compliance
• Garland Prisms Cloud Visibility (Tap, Aggregator)
• SailPoint IdentityIQ Implementation and Administration
• Infrastructure as Code, implementing DevOps tools as of Terraform, Ansible
• Desired Characteristics

• Excellent communications skills to share information with all necessary stakeholders
• Be able to discuss technical topics in English and Read / Write technical and Functional documentation in English
• Fluency in French (both reading and writing) would be considered a plus
• Demonstrated Agile and DevOps proficiency.
