Senior Platform Engineer

UG Labs is building a generative AI solution for children. Solving unique privacy, safety, and user experience challenges, UG Labs is shaping how kids learn, play, and interact in this next generation of consumer apps.

Role Overview:

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying our generative AI platform. It provides an API to develop, calibrate and interact with conversational moments, aimed primarily at children – including real-time voice-to-voice; formatting in complex, conditional context; deriving additional structured insights by way of continuous meta-analysis of the conversation; dealing with generated visuals and audio; and using LLMs on top of LLMs to simulate, fine-tune and safeguard the experience, all while fitting within tight performance and budget constraints.

This position requires deep expertise in Python, SQL, and GenAI, with an emphasis on dealing with complex, recursive abstractions, translating them into comprehensible features, and implementing those as part of a scalable, efficient, and reliable system. Experience with DevOps (Docker, Kubernetes) and/or Frontend Development (TypeScript, React) is a bonus, as it will let you contribute to the deployment and UI.

Responsibilities:

• Backend Development: Architect, develop, and maintain a complex, real-time web API using Python and GenAI.
• Data Management: Build and optimize data pipelines, queries, and database schemas using SQL to ensure efficient data access and processing.
• Write Dynamic, Performant and Quality Code: Work with complex, asynchronous, and highly parameterizable and self-referential codebase while maintaining high-quality coding standards through code reviews, testing, and documentation.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with data scientists, machine learning engineers, prompt engineers and game designers to deliver end-to-end AI solutions.
• MLOps (Optional): Implement MLOps best practices to streamline the development, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance of machine learning models.
• DevOps (Optional): Ensure scalability and reliability of AI services by leveraging cloud-based solutions and container orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
• Front-End Collaboration (Optional): Contribute to front-end development and integration with our Studio offering using React in TypeScript.

Required Qualifications:

• Python: At least 5 years of experience working with Python to develop big, complex systems (not occasional scripts), and at least 2 years of experience working with asynchronous Python.
• SQL: Hands-on experience with SQL for querying, data modeling, and performance optimization.
• Cloud: Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and related services for AI/ML workloads.
• Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to design efficient and effective solutions, deal with complex abstractions and fast-changing product requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MLOps: Proficiency in MLOps practices (especially for LLMs), including CI/CD pipelines for machine learning, model versioning, monitoring, and deployment.
• DevOps: Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including Docker, Kubernetes, and similar technologies.
• React in TypeScript: Familiarity with React in TypeScript for building and integrating responsive front-end solutions.
• Generative AI: Knowledge of generative AI models (GPT, RAG, Stable Diffusion, Transcription, Diarization) and their deployment workflows.
