Role description

To predict changes in soil organic carbon (SOC) under various conditions, we rely on process-based models that have been thoroughly tested and validated in the scientific literature. Currently, we are looking for a dedicated scientist to join our team and help us expand our models, automate our carbon credits calculations, and start developing our remote sensing capabilities.

This role involves managing complex and heterogenous data, delving into scientific papers, writing some code, and always being ready for new scientific challenges and projects.

The job is located in Kfar Saba (Rivulis Global HQ) and can be partially remote (full-time position).

Responsibilities

* Lead the expansion of Rivulis Climate soil organic carbon (SOC) models.

• Reviewing and summarizing scientific papers describing the effect of different agricultural practices on SOC
• Use the reviewed data to validate process-based carbon models

* Automate carbon credits calculations (in collaboration with our Project Developer) and lead their integration into our SOC model:

• Optimize and streamline data collection from farmers
• Improve data collection automation and computation into carbon credits

* Support the development of remote sensing capabilities to track field activities and monitor practices

* Support the expansion of Rivulis Climate capabilities to measure woody-biomass in agricultural trees

• Develop an approach in measuring woody biomass
• Perform in-field tree surveys

Qualities

Must Have

• Scientific background – BSc/MSc (or students) in soil science, agronomy, or bio-geo-chemistry
• Ability to screen, structure and organize large amount of scientific data
• Excellent English reading and writing
• Programming experience (Python, R)
• Analytical mindset
• Self-motivated and independent worker

Good To Have

• Experience in:

- Geographic Information Systems (GIS) experience

- Remote Sensing (RS)

- Data science and Machine Learning (ML)

• Understanding of bio-geo-chemical mechanisms of carbon fluxes in agricultural systems
• On-hand experience in SOC process-based models like RothC, DNDC and DayCent
