War Child Canada's flagship Afghanistan program advances social impact in the lives of vulnerable children, women, and their families through its Justice, Education, Health, and Livelihood (Opportunity) program with child protection and gender across its entire program. The country program is undergoing an exciting expansion with newly secured long-term funding for programs in various provinces including Kabul, Nangarhar, Balkh, Samangan, and Sar-e-Pul.

Job Description:

War Child Canada is looking for qualified an experiences staff for its health facilities focused on mother and child health and psychosocial support services for Kabul, Nangahar, Kandahar and Baghlan provinces in the following capacities:

  • Health Facility In-charge/ Medical Doctor Female (Number of positions 8):

The Health Facility In-Charge is directly responsible for the overall management of health facility supervision and reporting of activities. The Health Facility In-Charge will be a female Medical Doctor and will be responsible for promoting and providing quality health care services to the mothers and children in the facility. The medical doctor will work in close collaboration with the health facility team members including the Midwife, Psychosocial Counselors, Social Mobilizer and Female Youth Educator within the health facility.

Qualification:

  • Medical Degree from a recognized institution, with a valid license to practice medicine.

Experience:

  • Strong knowledge and expertise in maternal and child health and psychosocial support
  • Proven experience of working with mother and children in a clinical or hospital setting is preferred.
  • Experience in managing health / psychosocial programming.
  • Midwife (Number of positions 8):

The midwife will work in the health facility established in the community. The midwife is directly responsible for the provision Antenatal Care, Postnatal care, family planning, newborn care, health education and referral of complicated cases. The health facility midwife works under the supervision of the Health Facility Incharge/ Medical Doctor.

Qualification:

  • Graduate from the recognized midwifery school or Community midwifery education (CME) program.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1- 2 years of experience working within BPHS health facilities or with a Humanitarian NGO/Agency in a similar position.
  • Nutrition Counsellor Female(Number of positions 8):

The Nutrition Counselor is responsible for promoting improved nutritional practices and behaviors in target communities, focusing on vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers. The role involves conducting nutrition assessments, providing tailored counseling, and delivering education sessions to raise awareness about healthy diets and the prevention of malnutrition.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, Public Health, or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in nutrition counseling, community health, or a related role.
  • Experience in emergency or development settings is highly desirable.
  • Psychosocial Support Counsellor Female (Number of positions 8):

The Psychosocial Support Counselor is an essential member of the Child Protection project team, responsible for providing comprehensive psychosocial support, including counseling and referral services, to children at CFSs and within communities. Additionally, the PSS Counselor will strengthen the capacity of Community Mobilizers, Social Workers, and CFS Facilitators by training them in foundational PSS principles and practices. This capacity-building effort will enhance their ability to identify and support children in need of Psychosocial Support services.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant discipline (e.g. General Psychology, Counselling, Mental Health).
  • Additional qualification or certification in Mental Health, Psychology, Counseling or in another relevant field is highly desirable

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in psychosocial support or mental health services, preferably in humanitarian or development contexts.
  • Demonstrated experience working with children, families, and communities in need of psychosocial or child protection support.
  • Proven ability to conduct assessments, develop individualized care plans, and provide PSS interventions to vulnerable populations.
  • Experience in supervising and building the capacity of field teams, including community mobilizers and CFS facilitators.
  • Vaccinator Female (Number of positions 8):

The Vaccinator plays a critical role in delivering essential immunization services to target populations, including children, pregnant women, and other at-risk groups. The position involves administering vaccines in accordance with national immunization schedules, maintaining cold chain protocols, and ensuring the safe handling and disposal of vaccination materials. The Vaccinator will engage with communities to raise awareness about the importance of immunization, address vaccine-related concerns, and promote informed decision-making.

Qualification:

  • Diploma or certification in nursing, midwifery, or a related field. Training in immunization or vaccination is mandatory.
  • Registration with the relevant health authority or council, if applicable.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in vaccination or immunization campaigns, preferably in a community health or humanitarian setting.
  • Familiarity with national immunization schedules, cold chain management, and vaccination protocols.
  • Previous experience working in rural or underserved communities is highly desirable.
  • Social Mobilizer (Male/ Female) (Number of positions 8):

The Social Mobilizer will work in the community to serve as a bridge between the community and Health Facility through regular meetings with community members, religious and prominent leaders, Ulema, Mullah Imams, and youths. The Health Facility male social mobilizer, through regular meetings with community elders, religious elders, and youths, will strengthen women and girl’s links with Health Facility services and positively impact Health Facility utilization.

Qualification:

  • Bachelor's Degree in the relevant discipline (Social Work, Social Sciences, Psychology) and related backgrounds are preferable.

Experience:

  • Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in community mobilization with NGOs/INGOs.
