Job Description

The Position Purpose:

The Public Relations Manager is a professional who will act as the main representative between AREUO and the public, including government agencies. S/he will act as a link between two or more organizations, agencies, or groups. He is responsible for facilitating communication, collaboration, and information sharing between these parties to achieve common goals.

Specific Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities of the Public Relations Manager will vary depending on the specific tasks, but s/he will be responsible to execute some common specific responsibilities that may include the following:

• Facilitating communication: Act as a link between AREUO and public stakeholders, this may involve conveying information, coordinating meetings, and ensuring that all parties have access to the information they need.
• Collaborating with team members: work as part of an organizational team and should be responsible for collaborating with team members to achieve common goals of the organization. This may involve coordinating efforts, sharing resources, and providing support to team members in the lawful and timely execution of the organization’s research and advocacy activities in Afghanistan.
• Gathering and analysing information: The Public Relations Manager is responsible for gathering and analysing information from multiple sources in order to understand and fulfil the needs and goals of the organization.
• Building relationships: s/he works to build strong relationships between AREUO and its stakeholders in Afghanistan to facilitate communication and collaboration. S/he is expected to attend meetings, events, and conferences with the local authorities to maintain these relationships and to keep abreast of the latest developments concerning and or impact the day to day and strategic work of AREUO in Afghanistan.
• Providing support: s/he should be responsible for providing immediate and strategic advice and support to AREUO in various ways, including answering questions from public authorities, AREUO beneficiaries, and providing any necessary support and guidance for advancement and protection of AREOU interests and work in the country.
  
  

AREUO may have additional necessary tasks to be performed by the Public Relations Manager, entirely depending on the needs of the organization and the specific situation

Job Requirements

• Extensive knowledge of and familiarity with the current policy environment in Afghanistan, including the work of government institutions, donors, NGOs, media, and other members of civil society.
• Familiarity with the practice of policy-oriented research.
• Relevant academic qualifications, including at least a bachelor degree in a relevant area.
• At least 5 years of relevant project and people management experience.
• Strong communication skills, including fluency in Dari, Pashtu and spoken and written English skills.
• Strong interpersonal and cross-cultural skills, and the ability to work harmoniously in a multi­cultural environment.
• Adaptable, committed and flexible attitude.
• Ability to draw conclusions from information gathered/given.
• Ability to work independently and organize your own time.
• Computer skills, including word-­processing and e­mail (preferably MS Office: word/Outlook).
