Director of Finance

Utila is seeking a Director of Finance to oversee and manage all aspects of the company’s financial operations. This pivotal role includes building and leading the finance team, managing accounting and bookkeeping functions and driving key processes such as budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, compliance, cash flow management, and strategic financial planning and analysis.

As we scale our startup, the Director of Finance will collaborate closely with executive leadership to align financial strategies with organizational goals, ensure fiscal health, and deliver actionable insights to support informed decision-making.

Ideal candidates will bring 7+ years of finance experience, preferably with a strong background in FP&A and a proven track record in startup environments. A CPA qualification is required, with a preference for candidates with experience at one of the Big 4 accounting firms.

Responsibilities:

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

• Oversee the preparation of accurate, timely, and insightful financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including investors and board members.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and accounting standards.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and key performance indicators (KPIs).
• Financial Leadership:
• Oversee the financial strategy and provide leadership in all aspects of financial planning and analysis (FP&A).
• Partner with the executive team to define and track financial goals, ensuring alignment with the company’s strategic objectives.\
  
  

• Lead the annual budgeting process and ongoing forecasting to meet financial goals.
• Monitor financial performance against budgets, forecast deviations, and provide actionable insights for improvement.
  
  

• Manage the company’s cash flow to ensure operational liquidity and long-term financial sustainability.
• Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, and treasury functions to ensure efficient cash management.
  
  

• Over time, lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments (e.g., operations, marketing, product) to support business growth and operational efficiency.
  
  

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (CPA required). Preference for candidates with experience at one of the Big 4 accounting firms.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive finance experience, ideally in a senior finance role within a startup or high-growth environment.
• Strong financial planning and analysis (FP&A), budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting expertise.
• Deep knowledge of financial modeling, accounting principles, and financial software (preferably NetSuite).
• Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive business results.
• High level of integrity, confidentiality, and meticulous attention to detail.
• Advantage: experience in a SAAS company.
• Close work with the CEO and the Head of Business Operations.
