Research position in Marine & Aquatic Remote Sensing
A full-time research position in marine & aquatic remote sensing using passive and active sensors (satellite, airborne and stational) is open at the Israel Oceanographic & Limnological Research (IOLR) - National Institute of Oceanography in Haifa.
Scientific field: Marine and aquatic remote sensing.
Position Summary: A highly motivated researcher for independent studies of marine and terrestrial water bodies using passive (ocean color) and active remote sensors. The candidate is expected to conduct his/her research both in the field and in the lab and develop applications of satellite algorithms for water properties, e.g., algorithms for biological and biogeochemical properties, oil spill detection, etc.
The person accepted for this position will be expected to actively seek financial aid from national and international funding agencies to help support his/her research and to cooperate with ongoing research and monitoring projects at IOLR. Currently, monitoring is done monthly for the Israeli continental shelf and in Near Real Time at Haifa Bay and Ashkelon-Gaza (https://isramar.ocean.org.il/isramar2009/) using ocean color sensors (e.g. Sentinel 2,3, Landsat 8 & 9 and VIIRS).
Requirements:
· The applicant should hold a Ph.D. in Remote Sensing, Geomatics engineering, Oceanography, or any Natural or Exact sciences-related fields.
· Expertise in satellite remote sensing (e.g. ocean color) data processing and geospatial analysis.
· Ability to work independently and lead a group of students and technicians.
Advantages:
· Post-Doc
· Experience and knowledge in physical and biological oceanography
· Experience in modeling - coding and running marine and/or oceanographic models
· Artificial Intelligence techniques to develop and investigate indicators of marine plankton biodiversity by integrating in situ observations, model outputs, and satellite data.
· Experience in planning and conducting independent research
· Management of R&D at a national and international level
· Publications in peer-reviewed literature
· Experience working in the field, at sea
