Post-Doctoral Researcher Position – Drug Screening in Zebrafish Model

Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled post-doctoral researcher to join our lab in the Faculty of Marine Sciences in Michmoret. This project, currently funded for one year, focuses on drug screening using a zebrafish knockout model to identify potential therapeutic compounds for treating a GNE-related muscle degenerative disease.

Research Project Overview:

The project aims to assess the efficacy of potential drug candidates using a zebrafish model deficient in GNE, a key enzyme involved in sialic acid biosynthesis. GNE knockout larvae exhibit a distinct muscle phenotype and have a limited survival window, making it an excellent platform for screening therapeutic compounds. This project is in collaboration with a bioinformatics team from the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical School, which uses multi-omic analysis to prioritize drug candidates and predict their effects.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Developing a screening protocol suitable for this model.
2. Administering and testing selected drug candidates on zebrafish larvae.
3. Analyzing the impact of drugs on development, survival, and phenotypic changes.
4. Identifying and further testing promising drug hits for efficacy and toxicity.
5. Documenting and genotyping samples for analysis.
6. Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to explore drug candidates and their effects.
7. Publish research findings and contribute to the development of therapeutic strategies.

Qualifications Required:

• PhD in molecular biology, genetics, pharmacology, or related fields.
• Expertise in zebrafish model systems is highly desirable.
• Experience in drug screening, genotyping, and phenotypic analysis is preferred.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
